I'm a Fantastic Wreck (2020)
These works were created in the midst of the global pandemic. At this time Drey experienced a devastating loss when a family member suddenly died in a high-profile incident. Aside from the shock and grief, Drey was also unable to leave Victoria due to border closures to be with her family. Drey was bombarded with news stories and posts on social media regarding the case that she needed to distance herself from for her own sanity. Drey was unable to participate in the rituals we usually associate with death and grieving. It felt completely surreal and like a bad dream she couldn’t wake up from. These works explore Drey's unusual experience with death. The feeling of a thousand eyes watching and the boundaries presented by social isolation. The feeling of fragmentation and eventual resilience of the human spirit. Two of these works were exhibited in the EAC's Death in a Box (2020) virtual exhibition.
