Transfiguration (2020)
Transfiguration is a body of work that reflects the transmuting experience of 2020. From all of the chaos there is an opportunity to rise up, transformed. Created during the Melbourne stage 4 lockdown, these works explore a personal journey through isolation and grief. Japanese folklore tells the tale of the Kitsune, a shapeshifting mystical being that moves between taking the form of a human female and a fox, with her power and capacity to metamorphosize growing with age. The human-animal hybrid is a powerful symbol to communicate our deeper and freer animal selves. These works explore these themes through self-portraiture, repetition and oscillating between control and planning vs letting go and embracing change and imperfections.
